Interior Work:

Teachers were given access to set up classrooms.
Classroom desks and chairs have been installed.
Stage floor was painted and is awaiting its final coat.
Auditorium sound system installation is underway.
Auditorium carpet installation is nearly complete.

Exterior Work:

Curb and gutter work at the main entrance iscomplete.
Road base has been placed, with asphalt pavingunderway.
Concrete sidewalks and surrounding plaza areas arecomplete.
Landscaping work continues.
Preschool playground equipment and thesurrounding security fencing is complete.

Building Compliance:

Granite School District issued a TemporaryCertificate of Occupancy to allow outside vendorsand GSD personnel in the building to perform theirremaining work.

West Kearns Elementary Demolition

August 2026

Demolition has begun on the old West Kearns Elementary building. A new building will be constructed on the same property. Click here for more updates.

Skyline High Update – June 2026

Area H (Classroom Wing):

Classroom A/V and electrical punch work completed.Systems are functional with only a small list of correctiveitems remaining.
Countertops have been installed in the main restroomson Levels 2 and 3.
Corridor LVT installation is 95% complete, withremaining punch list items in progress.
Wood paneling installation is complete.
Construction cleaning in all areas is ongoing.

Area I (Black Box):

Black Box Theater bleachers are being installed.
The Scenery Shop floor has been ground and cleaned.
Cabinetry and shelving installations are complete.
Construction cleaning in all areas is ongoing.

Auditorium:

The Fly Loft orchestra shell has been installed, andlighting is being wired.
Control booth cabinetry has been installed.
Interior finish carpentry in the Auditorium is complete.
Seating installation began on May 18th.

Area J (Performing Arts Entry):

Entry wall graphics and display cases have beeninstalled.

Sitework / Demolition:

Building demolition and abatement have been completed.During demolition of the Auditorium, a significant amountof underground transite piping was discovered. Throughcoordination between Hughes, A1 Abatement, and GSD,the affected areas were cleared daily, allowing thedemolition contractor to remain productive on site,completing the impacted areas ahead of schedule, andkeeping the project moving forward.
Storm drainage chambers are being installed, along withconnections to all storm branch lines.
South-side landscaping has been installed. Over theweekend the day after the grass was installed, a vehiclewas driven through the newly landscaped area, damagingsprinkler lines, sprinkler heads, and portions of the grass.Hughes responded quickly and completed all necessaryrepairs the following week.
Courtyard sprinkler installation is complete, and the area isbeing prepared for grass installation.
Handrails have been installed on the stairway leading tothe Seminary Building.
Courtyard fence posts have been installed.
Final grading activities are ongoing in preparation forasphalt and concrete work.
Site utilities are being coordinated and tied into existing infrastructure.

Granite School District Fencing Projects

April 2026

Granite School District has begun a series of fencing improvement projects at several school campuses, focused on strengthening safety and security for students, staff, and visitors.

As part of this effort, some fencing may be replaced, select areas will receive new or upgraded gates, and layouts may be adjusted to better manage access points. These updates are designed to create more secure campus boundaries while still maintaining a welcoming environment for our school communities.

During the coming weeks, students, families, and patrons may notice construction activity at various schools. Work will be scheduled to minimize disruption to the school day whenever possible, and all projects will follow established safety guidelines.

These enhancements are part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, supportive learning environments. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as this important work is completed.

Specifically, fencing projects will happen at these schools in April/May 2026:

Cottonwood Elementary
Woodstock Elementary
Fox Hills Elementary
Hillsdale Elementary
Hillside Elementary
Hunter Elementary
Fremont Elementary

It’s estimated that the above projects will be completed by the end of May 2026.

All other schools in Granite will be evaluated for fencing projects. Fencing projects at other elementary schools will happen over the next year, with projects at jr. and sr. high schools happening later on. Updates will be posted here on GSDFuture.org.
